Sikkim Congress seeking alliance with SSP As the Assembly election, which is slated to be held by the year-end, is coming nearer, political atmosphere in Sikkim seems to be hotting up rapidly. While the ruling Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) is confident about a good show at the hustings, after few years of hibernation, Nar Bahadur Bhandari is back again. So is the Congress. As a matter of fact, the Congress is leaving no stone unturned to wrest power from the SDF, especially after the entry of Congress MP from Assam and lottery-baron Mani Kumar Subba. Since his emergency in the State politics Mr. Subba has successfully persuaded two regional outfits to merge with the Congress. At present he is reportedly discussing possible poll adjustment with Nar Bahadur Bhandari's Sikkim Sangram Parishad (SSP). But the SSP has already declared that it will not enter into any kind of seat-sharing with any political party. However, despite this political posture of the SSP Mr. Subba is reportedly hopeful about an electoral alliance with the SSP. |
