Two more Manipuri martyrs given emotional farewell Two martyrs, Lance Naik Zirmithang and Sepoy N. Beningvir Moyon, who laid down their lives in the Kargil sector for the sake of the unity and integrity of the country were given an emotional farewell by the people of Manipur recently. Both the personnel belonged to the Second Naga regiment. The bodies of the two martyrs were received with full military honours at the Imphal airport under the aegis of 9 Sector. Manipur Governor O. N. Srivastava, deputy Chief Minister L. Chandramani Singh, former chief minister Rishang keishing, 9 sector Commander Brig. Rajendra and host of ministers, top officials from of the civil and police administration were also present at the airport. The State Governor and others, placed wreaths on the bodies of the two martyrs. Mr. Srivastava on behalf of the recently formed Martyrs of Kargil Families Relief Fund habnded over Rs. 25,000 each to the family menbers of the two personnel as immediate relief measures. The Army on behalf of the Eastern Command also handed over a sum of Rs. 15,000 each to the families of the two soldiers. Elder brother of Lance Naik Zirmithang, Naib Subedar S. Rishothang said, who woks in the same regiment said, I am proud of him. He disclosed that the unfortunate incident took place on July 6 when the troop tried to fire 84 RL rocket from Mashkhuwa village in Kargil sector. It may be mentioned here that altogether
five Manipuris, belonging to first and second Naga Regiments had laid down thgir lives in
the Kargil conflict. |
