Majority of Nagas are with the nation: Jamir "Majority of the Nagas are with the nation and Naga soldiers attached to various Army regiments are second to none when it come to valour and patriotism," said Nagaland Chief Minister S. C. Jamir. "The brave soldiers of the Naga Regiment and Naga officers and jawans in other regiments have shown through their deeds that they are second to none," the Chief Minister said. "It has once again proved that barring a handful of misguided elements, the majority of the Nagas are with India," Mr. Jamir asserted and observed that this needed to be applauded. But the Chief Minister expressed his displeasure over what he said "the total lack of publicity" on the part of the national print media and even by Doordarshan in highlighting the sacrifices of the brave Naga soldiers. Mr. Jamir recalled that the Naga Regiment was raised in mid-60s as part of the implementation of the historic 16-point agreement between the Centre and the Naga Peoples Convention paving the way for foundation of the State of Nagaland. In this context, he demanded first
preference to Naga youths in the recruitment of jawans to the regiment as a recognition of
bravery and patriorism. |
