Mizoram submits 15 projects for self-sufficiency in food

The Mizoram Government has submitted 15 projects under non-lapseable pool fund to the Planning Commission, State Chief Secretary H. V. Lalringa informed recently.

Besides the draft sectoral allocation for Rs 360 crore for the State annual plan outlay, the State Government submitted 15 projects under the non-lapseable pool fund, commonly called ‘peace bonus’ to accelerate development in the State.

The proposed projects were aimed at achieving self-sufficiency in food production and income generation, he said. The Union Finance Ministry had earlier agreed to disburse Rs. 50 crore annually for five years under the pool fund, which is over and above annual plan outlays.

The Mizoram Government has prioritised the proposed projects and six of them were selected to be started during the current fiscal year. The projects are —— 20 MW Bairabi thermal project, establishment of Zoram Fashion Institute, animal fodder and feed industry, bamboo processing industry and marketing centres at Aizawl, Calcutta and New Delhi.
