North East gears up to give its mite to Kargil fund The Tripura Government has donated Rs. 25 lakh to the National Defence Fund, created a State owned fund and announced package of schemes for the brave soldiers, killed or injured in the Kargil conflict. Official sources informed that the State Government has created a fund titled Chief Ministers Relief Fund with an initial contribution of Rs. 5 lakh by the State Government. People from all walks of life in the State are invited to contribute generously to this fund. The State Government also formulated a rehabilitation package for jawans and officers hailing from Tripura who have made supreme sacrifice in protecting the territorial integrity of the country against the Pakistan-backed intruders in the Kargil sector, and for those who have been injured or disabled in the conflict. Under the scheme, the next of kin of those who made supreme sacrifice would be given a token financial assistance of Rs. 2 lakh and also a permanent job in the State Government. Those wounded or disabled and has been declared unfit for military service would be given a token financial assistance of Rs. one lakh and also a permanent Government job. Where the family of those who have achieved martyrdom, wounded or disabled in action, is homeless, a house would be given to them under any of the existing schemes of the State Government. Landless soldiers, who have achieved martyrdom or have been disabled in action will also be given homestead land. The children of the killed or injured jawans will be given the facilities of free education up to college level and suitable stipend will be paid to such students. Meanwhile, in Nagaland, all the ministers and the MLAs of the Congress have decided to contribute one months salary to Prime Ministers Relief Fund for the Kargil operation. The decision was taken at a Congress Legislature Party meeting recently. The CLP has also requested the State Chief Secretary to convene a meeting of the State Government Employees Federation and appeal to them for suitable contribution. It further appealed to all the citizens of the State to contribute generously to the Chief Ministers Relief Fund. On the other hand, people from all walks of life, educational institutions and different organisations in Meghalaya have come forward with their contributions to the Armed Forces Relief Fund for the soldiers engaged in the undeclared war with Pakistan. Government Girls Higher Secondary School donated Rs. 15,000 while Rs. 2,000 came from Sri Sarada Sangha. Meghalaya Directorate of Educational Research and Training also handed over a contribution of Rs. 5,370 to Chief Minister B. B. Lyngdoh. Besides, the Arunachal Chamber of Commerce and Itanagar Market Welfare Association have also donated Rs. 1.15 lakh to the Prime Ministers Relief Fund as a token of solidarity to the Kargil martyrs. In a statement Sanjoy Tassar, president of Arunachal Chamber of Commerce said that the amount was collected from the members of the organisations as an expression of solidarity with the jawans fighting to drive out the intruders from Indian territory in the Batalik, Kargil and Drass sectors. In Aizawl, Mizoram Governor A. Padmanabhan
has decided to donate his one days emoluments towards the Prime Ministers
National Relief Fund. According to a spokesman, the Governor has also asked the staff of
the Raj Bhavan to contribute generously to the cause. |
