NEDFi’s training workshop on bamboo handicrafts

North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (NEDFi) in collaboration with Nagaland Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd. had organized a 10-day workshop on ‘Training of trainers on cane & bamboo handicrafts’ recently at Half Nagarjan, Dimapur. I. Imkong, Minister for Industries, Government of Nagaland inaugurated the workshop. A team of four trainers from Cane & Bamboo Technology Centre (CBTC), Guwahati imparted technology-base training to the participants in the workshop. The four trainers from CBTC were earlier trained in Philippines in the field of finishing, jigmaking, bending and framing and weaving. The development of the cane & bamboo sectors in India especially in the North-East is a priority programme of the Government of India and the seven North-Eastern states. It is assisted by UNDP and UNIDO.
The workshop at Dimapur upgraded the knowledge and skills of trainers throughout the North-East, especially in the existing training centres. The workshop increased awareness among government officials, businessmen, trainers and entrepreneurs about the opportunities in manufacturing and exporting industrial cane and bamboo products. The training was a venue for honing the craft, and prepared the workforce for line production needed to produce industrial cane and bamboo products and boost export competitiveness.
