HNLC’s attack, arms loot continue

Suspected Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) militants looted a huge cache of arms and ammunition for the third time in a week. Recently, the militants attacked Finance Minister A. H. Scott Lyngdoh’s house and seized weapons from the guards and they again attacked a police beat house a day after setting it afire and decamped with arms after snatching it from the police.

Though State Home Minister T. H. Rangad suspected HNLC’s involvement in these incidents but police had not been able to make any headway yet. About the latest incident, the police said about eight armed youths stormed the licensed gun dealer’s shop at Khasi Jaintia Presbyterian Synod complex at Mawkhar and looted 35 DBBL/SBBL guns and 100 rounds of ammunition.

The miscreants then fled from the spot in two vehicles towards Jaiaw and Mawlai. The police had launched a massive search operation, the sources added.
