NCP hopeful of larger support base in Meghalaya

The newly formed Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) hinted that some regional parties in Meghalaya would likely to support the NCP after the formal split in the Congress Legislature Party in the State Assembly. Informing that nine out of 25 Congress MLAs in Meghalaya who have formed Meghalaya Congress Party after the split in the legislature party would support the NCP, party spokesman Devendra Nath Dwibedi said that it was a developing situation in Meghalaya and more parties from the State would likely to join the NCP soon.

He claimed that one independent also announced his decision to support the NCP. In May 31, the Congress Legislature Party in Meghalaya split under the leadership of Lotsingh Sangma in the wake of expulsion of former Lok Sabha speaker P. A. Sangma from the Congress
