New transit pact signed by Assam, Arunachal The Assam Government and the Arunachal Government has entered into a new transport agreement. The transport department of both the states recently signed a reciprocal agreement in the Deputy Commissioner's conference hall in supersession of earlier agreement between the two States of September 13, 1982. The agreement was signed by O. P. Agarwal, commissioner and secretary transport, Government of Assam and S. C. L. Das, secretary, Government of Arunachal Pradesh in presence of Pradip Hazarika, Minister, Transport, Assam and Tengam Nyemu, Minister, Land Management, Transport and Civil Aviation of Arunachal Pradesh. As per the reciprocal agreement, the State transport authority of either State may issue state carriage permits on the inter-state routes of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, and shall conform to and comply with the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 as amended from time to time. The rules framed by the home states should carry valid certificate of fitness, permit and registration. For plying of the passenger service buses
from one State to another State no tax will be paid by the operators. However, vehicles
traversing through the corridor of either State will have to follow the normal rules and
regulations applicable in the respective States. |
