Laldenga remembered on his death anniversary

Mizo National Front leader Laldenga was remembered by party functionaries and workers on his eighth death anniversary.

His wife, Lalbiakoiki said on the occasion: "I am confident that my husband's dreams would be fulfilled by his party which came back to power after a gap of ten years."

She also expressed that her husband's dream of uplifting Mizoram to achieve 'economic independence' would be fulfilled by the MNF-led coalition government.

Wreaths were laid at Laldenga's burial place at Treasury Square, by his wife, Chief Minister Zoramthanga's wife Roneihsangi and host of other dignitaries including the Speaker of the State Assembly.The Mizo leader died of cancer on July 7, 1991. Laldenga had formed the MNF in 1961 and declared independence from the Indian Union on March 1, 1966 which plunged the State into a state of turmoil for the next 20 years. He became the Chief Minister of the State after signing an accord with the Centre on June 30, 1986.
