Meghalaya concern over conflict in Kargil

Meghalaya Chief Minister B. B. Lyngdoh expressed concern over the ongoing conflict in Kargil and the adjoining areas in Jammu and Kashmir.

Condemning the unprovoked aggression by Pakistan, Mr. Lyngdoh expressed solidarity with the Union Government and the armed forces of the country. He also condoled the deaths of the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for India's defence. The Chief Minister was speaking in the State Assembly in support of a special mention moved by BJP member T. H. Rangad.

Commenting on the ISI's activities in the State, the Meghalaya Chief Minister said that the State Government would keep a close watch on the activities of such foreign agents and their sympathisers and take appropriate action according to the law against any attempt on the part of any person or group of persons who would try to undermine the unity and integrity of the country.

Earlier moving the special mention, Mr. Rangad said, "Despite Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee's historic step to improve diplomatic relations and cooperation with Pakistan, the latter clandestinely and treacherously organised intrusion, aggression and undeclared war on our country."
