| Manipur honours its two Kargil martyrs
Two jawans, Lance Naik Kaleshwor Kom and Nicholas Moyon, belonging to the 1st Naga Regiment, who laid down their lives for the cause of the nation in the Kargil sector recently were honoured by Manipur Governor O. N. Srivastava in a simple function at the Raj Bhavan. In the function, the State Governor donated Rs. 25,000 each to the families of the two jawans. Deputy Chief Minister L. Chandramani Singh and commanding officer of the 57 Mountain Division Major General Arvind Sharma were also present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, O. N. Srivastava lauded the Indian Army particularly the Armymen of this region who had been fighting for their motherland at Kargil and Batalik in Jammu and Kashmir. Major general Arvind Sharma and the Deputy Chief Minister also spoke. L. Chandramani Singh informed that the State Ministers would donate one month's salary to the Martyrs of Kargil Relief Fund. Earlier the Government of Manipur also granted ex-gratia relief of Rs. one lakh each to the families of the two jawans from the State who became martyrs in the current fighting in the Kargil sector. Chief Minister W. Nipamacha Singh handed over the drafts to the mother and the wife of the two soldiers respectively at his residence recently. The mother of sepoy Chara Nicholas Moyon of Heigru Tampak in Chandel district received ex-gratia relief from the Chief Minister while the wife of Lance Naik Y. Kaleshwor Kom of Khurai Puthiba, Imphal East Yumnam Devi received the relief at a simple function. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that both the soldiers representing the State sacrificed their lives for the cause of the nation. |
