Jacob calls for better ecological care Meghalaya Governor M. M. Jacob said that one of the worlds most dangerous crises is the one that is created by the gross and constantly increasing pollution of the environment. The ecological danger is a serious problem to which urgent attention is now being paid in most parts of the world, he said. Speaking as the chief guest at the World Environment Day function, organised by the Forest and Environment department in association with Shillong We Care, the Governor said, the usually identified main components of the environment are soil, water and air. These components of the environment keep interacting with each other to maintain the ecological balance. It is an established fact that there exists a vital link between environment and life, which is being upset by misuse, abuse and uncontrolled use of the earths resources, thereby endangering the very existence of the human race, he lamented. He called upon the government organisations, NGOs and academic institutions to play an active role in spreading awareness among the public about the environmental issues confronting Meghalaya, to make our place an environmentally ideal State. Among others present on the occasion were Finance Minister A. H. Scott Lyngdoh, Forest and Environment Minister A. L. Hitler Marak and Chief Secretary J. P. Singh. |
