WW II memorial meseum in Nagaland

The Nagaland Art and Cultural Department has decided to construct a World War II memorial museum near Phesama, about 12 km from Kohima, at a cost of Rs. 65 crore, according to joint director of the department Alem Longkumer.

Mr. Longkumer said that the department has already acquired 35 acres of land at Kigwema and Phesama village. Rs. 40 lakh have been released for the initial works on the project.

The entire construction work of the project will be done by an independent body named as “the Nagaland Art and Cultural Council” under the supervision of the department. While the exterior part of the complex will be of an indigenous design, the insides of the museum will be of modern design.
He said the State Government is in constant touch with the Union Ministry of Cultural Affairs and one of the joint secretaries of the ministry is likely to visit the State soon for the purpose. The State Department expect some funds from the Union Government, he said.

As various delegations from the United Kingdom and Japan were visiting the State, and both the countries were engaged in the World War II, the countries may provide some assistance for the said project, although communications were yet to be made on the matter, he said.

The joint director said the department had acquired another ten acres of land in Dimapur to set up one regional museum. The project will be funded by the Centre.
