Military junta cracks whip on North East ultras in Myanmar: Khaplang among fleeing militants Military junta in Myanmar inflicted a severe blow to the activists of half-a-dozen rebel outfits of the North-East which had their training camps in that country. This disclosure made by seven fleeing militants belonging to PLA, PREPAK and UNLF of Manipur at Tizit in Nagalands Mon district. The arrested militants admitted that they had to resist "unexpected" offensive from the junta and informed that the Myanmarese army destroyed the NSCN (K) central headquarters (CHQ) at Chumnu and also made move towards the general headquarters (GHQ) of the militant outfit. Manipur valley-based insurgents along with a guide were nabbed by the security forces when they sneaked into Nagaland. The militants also revealed that NSCN (K) chairman S.S. Khaplang who was camping at the GHQ at the time of the juntas attack, decamped his shelter and sought refuge in the nearby jungles. All the cadres, who were camping at the GHQ, also left the camp and some of them have managed to enter Nagaland. Sources said most of the fleeing militants, mostly ULFA and NSCN (K) cadres, sneaked into parts of Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland. Meanwhile, the Union Home Ministry had denied the reports that the operation inside Myanmar was a joint one by the government armed forces of the two countries. It may be mentioned here that both the countries as a sequal to series of bi-lateral discussions over last one year decided to share intelligence to curb cross-border militancy, drugs paddling, smuggling and maintain proper border management. The arrested insurgents also said that the military junta launched three-phase operation against the ultra outfits. They said their camp was attacked by around 300 juntamen. The nabbed ultras also disclosed that at least 25 cadres, belonging to different rebel groups, were nabbed by the Myanmarese armymen, but fate of them was not known. Six militant outfits of the region, who were the members of now defunct Indo Burma Revolutionary Front (IBRF), have been helping each other for conducting training camps at Myanmar, transhipment of arms and providing safe passage even as they do not interfere in each others political decisions. Following the revelations of the arrested militants, security forces have intensified their operations in the NE region. On the other hand, the NSCN (K) has accused the Government of India of masterminding the operational strike against NSCN by Myanmar military junta in eastern Nagaland (Myanmar). In a faxed statement, deputy kilonser (minister) of information and publicity affairs of the government of peoples republic of Nagaland (GPRN) Kughalu Mulatonu said the NSCN (K) held the Government of India responsible for treacherously masterminding operational strike against NSCN (K) and its allies in the base area in eastern Nagaland (Myanmar) by duping the Myanmarese military junta. The NSCN (K) summed up the attack on its
cadres and allies and others as the unluckiest follow-up military attack enthused by
prejudiced instigations and presumptions. He said the Indian Home Ministry has of late
been publicising fabricated articles in various media claiming that the NSCN and its
allies have suffered the attack of the Myanmarese military junta. |
