Tripura Govt. for 'Red Corner' against NLFT leaders

The Tripura Government has urged the Centre to move to Interpol for issuing 'Red Corner' warrant against six top National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) leaders who have been chargesheeted in the assassination of former health minister Bimal Sinha and his brother Bidyut.

During his recent trip to Delhi, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar has requested the Centre to expedite the matter. In support of his demand the Chief Minister handed over the details of the criminal activities of the six NLFT leaders.

This is probably for the second time that a North-Eastern State Government has requested the Centre to move to Interpol to nab militants active in the region. Earlier, the Assam Government did the same against six top ULFA leaders in the wake of social worker Sanjoy Ghose's abduction and subsequent developments. Then Interpol obliged and after the issuance of the 'Red Corner” warrant,
ULFA leader Anup Chetia was arrested in Dhaka.

The six NLFT leaders against whom the State Government has urged the Centre to move to Interpol are: Biswamani Debbarma, president of the banned organisation, Mantu Koloi, Kamini Debbarma, Jitendra Debbarma, Dhanu Koloi and Bishnupada Jamatia.

The NLFT leaders are now reportedly hiding in Bangladesh and evading the Indian law enforcing agencies.

A team of CID officials investigated the case and filed chargesheet against 34 NLFT ultras and their collaborators. However, the State police force could not arrest most of them as they were reportedly out of the country. The State Government has also announced reward for information leading to their arrest.

If Interpol issues Red Corner warrant against these six leaders for committing heinous crimes and violation of international laws, the Bangladesh Government might ensure the arrests of NLFT leaders and deport them to India.
