Expedite peace process: NPC

Urging all concerned to expedite the ongoing peace process in Nagaland, president of the Nagaland People's Council (NPC) Shurhozelie opined that unity among the various Naga underground factions should not be a pre-requisite for the peace talks. He said that the much-talked about unity among different underground factions should not come in way of the ongoing negotiation process.

Mr. Shurhozelie said that unity must be achieved but making it a pre-requisite for political talks would further complicate the vexed problem as the Centre remained silent over the matter.

Describing the Naga political problem as a national problem, the president of the regional political outfit said that if the Naga problem was resolved amicably, other problems confronting the North-East region could also be solved.

The NPC chief regretted that no political dialogue had taken place though the ongoing ceasefire between the Centre and the undergrounds was extended for another year.
