Arunachal to clear Dihang dam project After the Manipur Government had agreed to withdraw its opposition against the construction of the Tipaimukh dam, now the Arunachal Pradesh Government has reportedly decided to okay the construction of the Dihang dam. The proposed Dihang multi-purpose dam project, which was envisaged to tame the mighty Brahmaputra to a large extent, had been a bone of contention between the Assam Government and the Arunachal Pradesh. It is being said that former chief minister of Arunachal Gegong Apang was vehemently opposed to the project. Recently Arunachal Pradesh Finance Minister L. Wanglet stated that the present State Government was considering to allow construction of Dihang multi-purpose dam project for the benefit of the hill State and as well as Assam and the entire North-East region. However, he said that the approval for the dam project would be subject to condition that the construction should be done on hard rocks without causing seismic disturbance. The dam would help the State to earn more than Rs. 1, 600 crore per year as royalty from hydro-power generated. |
