Couple burnt alive in Shillong village In a macabre incident, a couple was set ablaze by a mob after pouring petrol on them at Mawlai Nongkwar in Shillong. The couple's house was subsequently ransacked and also set on fire. According to police, the victim's family was attacked by the mob following the recovery of the body of a 13-year-old child Samson Lyshing from the Mawlai area. The mob suspected the couple had murdered the child. Four children of the couple also received injuries in the attack and were subsequently admitted to the Shillong Civil Hospital. The couple has been identified as Sohben Kurba and Phropsimai Rynthathiang. The deputy commissioner of the East Khasi Hills district has ordered a magistrial probe into the incident. Unofficial sources disclosed that the couple was suspected to be practising some witchcraft.
