PIL on alleged diversion of lottery money to ultras

Union Government informed the Delhi High Court that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) was examining the report of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) about the allegations of allowing diversion of State lottery proceeds by the Nagaland Government to the ultras.

Government Counsel H. S. Phoolka told a Division Bench comprising acting Chief Justice Devinder Gupta and Justice K. S. Gupta that the CAG report being examined by the Home Ministry would be placed before the court on the next date of hearing.

The court was hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) by an NGO —— Movement for National Awareness —— which alleged that various 'illegalities and irregularities' had been committed by the Nagaland Government and its proceeds were 'allowed to be diverted to ultras posing threat to national security'.

The petition moved through advocate Viraj Datar had sought a CBI inquiry into the matter.
Challenging the petition, Nagaland Government counsel Rajesh Munjal said there was no truth in the allegation.

“The petitioner cannot have the liberty to file petitions in different High Court on the same issue,” he said. The matter would come up for hearing on July 20.
