Don't pay insurgents: Army

The Army has asked the people of Manipur not to pay money to any insurgent outfit.Anyone who was paying money or collecting money to pay insurgent outfits was in effect aiding and abetting these banned organisations and would therefore be treated as an 'anti-national', the Army said in a release.

Those people who were collecting or extorting money on behalf of insurgents were guilty of violating the laws of the land and Army and Assam Rifles would do their best to arrest such people whenever they became aware of such activities, the release said.

The Army made the statement following recent arrest of a non-Manipuri businessmen who had collected a few lakh of rupees meant to be given to underground organisations.

“The Army and Assam Rifles are not harassing anyone in any manner when they arrest those who pay money to the insurgents, the release said, adding that the security forces were doing their duty to check any form of assistance to the 'criminals' who had been looting the people of Manipur for many years.
