Congress to support moves to topple Zoramthanga Government The opposition Congress in Mizoram would support any move by the ruling coalition partner Mizoram People's Conference (MPC) to topple the Zoramthanga Government in the State, MPCC vice-president Saikaphianga said. Stating that Chief Minister Zoramthanga has no moral right to continue in office, Saikapthinga claimed that the people of Mizoram were not safe under the present Chief Minister and would soon feel frustrated with his policies. He said that the Mizo farmers were boarding a rudderless boat with the government abolishing the new land use policy initiated by the Congress Government to uplift the rural poor and without any alternative arrangement being made. Saikpthianga criticised Zoramthanga for his initiative to have border trade with neighbouring Bangladesh saying that the Chief Minister's offer to import chicken and fish from Bangladesh would hurt local entrepreneurs. He said implementation of border trade and levying of sales tax without constitutional safeguard with trading regulation would economically harm the Mizos. The Congress vice-president also alleged that the present government violated Central guidelines while implementing rural development programmes. Beneficiaries under the rural development programmes were selected at the whims of the local MNF leadership bypassing the selection made by village development committees, he said, adding, a number of fictitious names were selected as beneficiaries". |
