Mahanta lays foundation stones
Assam Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta laid the foundation stone of a bridge over
river Longai at Ponerohar in Karimganj. He also inaugurated a fire brigade station and
laid the foundation stone of the building of the fire brigade station at Patherkanoli.
Addressing a meeting held under the chairmanship of Sahidul Alam Choudhury, Minister
Panchayat and Rural Development at Pathorkmali,

Chief Minister Mahanta said that an amount of Rs. 75 lakh has been
sanctioned for construction of a bridge over river Longai in Patherkanoli area under the
Border Area Development Programme and an another amount of Rs. 10 lakh has been sanctioned
for a mini stadium in Paterkanoli. |
He also announced that an amount of Rs. 5 lakh will be given for development of the
field at Patherikanoli.
Addressing another meeting held on the occasion of laying of foundation stone over river
Longai Chief Minister Mahanta said that the government is keen for development of Barak
valley and the two hill district of Assam. He said that an amount of Rs. 11.5 crore has
been sanctioned for improvement of Surma Trunk road in Karimganj district and the BRTF has
already started survey works for the purpose. Addressing the foundation stone laying
ceremony Mahanta said that the scheme would be completed in two phases. He said that the
first phase at a cost of Rs. 9 crore would be completed within three years six months
period and would supply drinking water to additional 60,000 people of the area.
