Nepal calls for demarcation of its border with neighbours Nepal has called for a demarcation of its border with neighbouring countries in a scientific manner with a spirit of accommodation.We need to demark our borders via a scientific manner by a technical committee, the Nepalese Ambassador to India India Bhek Bahadur Thapa said. Admiting that there were some areas where questions have been raised on its alleged accession by India. Mr. Thapa called for looking at these areas with a spirit of accommodation without losing the sense of details. The Nepalese envoy, who recently visited Sikkim, said that a committee comprising the Surveyor General of India and his Nepalese counterpart has been formed to look into the matter.He, however, parried a direct reply on extra area of the border under question saying there were some pockets. We are not saying those areas as disputable, Mr. Thapa hastened to add. Mr. Thapa said that India was the largest private sector investor in Nepal at present while Japan the biggest contributor in development.Replying to a question, the envoy said Nepal has been clamouring for a nuclear-free world since 1953 when the kingdom joined the United Nations. We have expressed our concern against any kind of nuclear explosion be it done by India of France, Mr. Thapa said in an apparent reference to the Pokhran blasts. Asked if Nepal wanted India to sign CTBT, the envoy replied,We do not think it is our duty to guide New Delhi on this issue although Kathmandu voted positively in the UN. |
