Cricket on Air India menu

“Maiden over,” “southern deliveries”, “straight drive” and “square cut” will be some of the mouth-watering delicacies that Air India would be serving aboard its flights between Mumbai and Delhi to London to commemorate the World Cup cricket scheduled between May 14 and June 20 next.

What do these exotic sounding dishes consist of?

“Southern deliveries” comprises Mulagapodi dosa, Andhra upma, Mysore bonda, Chetinad sambhar and coconut chutney. “Indian eleven” comprises a combination of freshly selected salads.
A “square cut” is nothing but breast of chicken stuffed with mushroom and “bel paese” cheese grilled and napped with madeira sauce. The list goes on and on. All these dishes would be served in the form of cricket gears like bat, ball, bails and pitch.

The artistically designed menu card with bails resting on a fork, would spell out the cricket environment being created on board for the World Cup extravaganza.A “Best of Luck India” campaign got up on the occasion would enable more than 25,000 passengers travelling on its 50-odd flights to London during the World Cup to write his or her message wishing the Indian team all the “very best” on a card provided to them. Such cards would be forwarded to the Indian team on a regular basis. Passengers participating in the “Best of Luck India” campaign would also have the opportunity of winning prizes comprising cricket bats, wrist watches, caps and T-shirts, besides litre grande cuvee de millennium rose sparkling wine.

Even the entertainment channel aboard the flight would include an audio channel of Indian ghazals conceptualised by cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar and interspersed with interesting cricketing anecdotes.
