Mizoram asks Finance Commission to waive off loans Mizoram Government has asked the 11th Finance Commission to consider the heavy loan burden of the State and to take 'corrective measures' by writing off Rs. 398.14 crore in loan as a first step. In a memorandum submitted to the visiting chairman and members of the commission, the State Government asked the commission to set aside 30 per cent of the sharable pool for devolution to the special category states. Appealing to give special consideration and treatment to the State to save the hard-earned peace accord of 1996, the memorandum sought adequate provisions for committed liabilities on account of administrative expenses including provisions for implementation of the Central fifth pay commission recommendations. The State Government asked the commission to provide adequate grants for implementation of Panchayat Raj in the State. The memorandum says, Mizoram occupies the most disadvantaged position even amongst the special category states... the neglect at the hands of the Government of Assam following by two-decade long insurgency, pushed back Mizoram in race of development. |
