NE's potential orchid production A six-member UNDP team recently visited the North-Eastern states for surveying the potential of export oriented orchid production. The survey was undertaken at the request of the Agricultural and Prossessed Food Product Export Development Authority (APEDA) under the Union Ministry of Commerce. The team visited different orchid farms of Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Assam and held discussions with different government officials of these states, NEC and financial institutions like NABARD, NEDFi during their two-week long stay. The cymbadium orchid of North-East which are available from the month of October to March has got good scope to enter into global market as during these months it does not have to compete with other cymbadium orchid producing countries like Holland, USA, Australia and New Zealand. |
