Sikkim's tourism potential Sikkim Governor Chaudhury Randhir Singh has emphasised the potential of tourism as a major industry in this Himalayan State. The Governor, during his recent three-day tour of the picturesque West Sikkim, expressed keen interest in the development of the sacred 'Kelchopheri' or 'Wishing Lake', situated at an altitude of 6,000 feet near the famed tourist resort of Yoksum. This apart, he also emphasised on the development of West Sikkim, a 'treasure trove' of religious artefacts and relics housed in the numerous monasteries and 'chortens'. The Governor said, tribal-dominated West Sikkim's immense natural beauty, ancient monasteries and chorten should be projected so as to attract tourists. Beside tourism, the Governor stressed on the tribal areas income generating capacity through floriculture, horticulture, cultivation of herbal medicinal plants. |
