Nupeelal Memorial Complex dedicated to people

The Nupeelal Memorial Complex, a memorial complex of the Manipuri womens' war against price hike of rice and paddy in 1939 during the British period, was dedicated to the people of Manipur by State Governor O. N. Srivastava recently.

Inaugurating the complex, the Governor, who is also the chairman of the committee for construction of the complex, expressed his happiness for realisation of the dream of the imas (mothers).

The complex was constructed at a cost of about Rs. 80 lakh collected from the people of Manipur.
The history of Nupeelal (women's war) and the value of Manipur women was recognised not only throughout the North-East, but also all over the country, the Governor emphasised. Manipur Chief Minister W. Nipamacha Singh who presided over the inaugural function praised the country's women for their pioneering work for the advancement of the society. The Manipuri women worked shoulder to shoulder with men and had a position of respect and dignity.
