Centre's rehabilitation package for NE

The Centre has approved a rehabilitation package of Rs. 10.36 crore for the North-Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation Limited (NERAMAC). This package will be implemented after obtaining concurence of Board of Industrial Finance and Reconstruction (BIFR), according to the annual report of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries for the year 1998-99.

NERAMAC was set up in Guwahati in 1982 with the main objective of undertaking marketing and processing of fruits and vegetables grown in the North-East region and the authorised share capital of the corporation was Rs. 500 lakh and paid up capital of Rs. 369 lakh. The corporation's turnover during April to December, 1998 was Rs. 87. 49 lakh as compared to Rs. 85. 35 lakh during the corresponding period of 1997-98.

The Ministry of Food Processing Industries which acts as a catalyst for bringing in greater investment into the food processing sector has granted 3999 Industrial Entrepreneur Memoranda (IEMs0 envisaging an investment of Rs. 46924 crore and direct employment of approximately 6.73 lakhs persons since August 1991 till December 1998. About 39 per cent of these investments are for backward areas.
