NSCN (IM) cadres open fire at Army patrol

The Issac-Muivah faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN I-M) activists had once again opened fire at an Army patrol at a place
under Nagaland’s Dimapur district even though a ceasefire is in force, Assam Rifles sources said. Army
personnel retaliated with "considerable restraint" when the underground activists fired on them at Longwesungu village under Niuland sub-division but no casualty was reported on either side, the sources said.

Personnel of 3rd Madras Regiment during search operation recovered three rifles and stores from the spot after the undergrounds fled to nearby jungles. This was
the second incident of exchange of fire between the Army and NSCN (I-M) after September 27 when an Army patrol was fired on near the NSCN (IM) ‘‘general headquarters’’.

NSCN (I-M), in a statement described the September 27 incident as "unfortunate" saying that it was the
outcome of 4th Garhwal Regiment’s "intentional confrontation" against the outfit’s general headquarters at Ponglwa.
