India and Myanmar governments have decided to gear up operations to contain the drug menace. The decision was taken at a high-level meeting held in Moreh recently. The meeting was attended by the enforcement agencies of both the countries. Both the countries favoured a comprehensive strategy to contain the trafficking thereby causing a serious problem for the people living along the border. The meeting also emphasised on raising of a task force to effectively patrol the border to cope with the situation In the meeting, the Myanmar officials revealed that the it had already initiated steps to contain opium cultivation by way of alternative arrangements so that people could manage their daily life. Apart from drug trafficking, the ongoing illegal
trade figured in the meeting and officials of both the countries decided to hold frequent
meetings. During the past couple of months, the anti-smuggling agencies have made several
seizures along the Indo-Myanmar border. The seizures highlight the fact that
drug-trafficking is going on various preventive measures. Now both the countries have
decided to mobilise the people living along the border against the drug menace. |
