Mizoram urges transfer of power units management

The Mizoram government urged the Centre to transfer the management of the power projects being set up here to the State administration to help generate more employment opportunities. The request was made during a meeting between State Deputy Chief Minister Lalhmingthanga and representatives of the Central Water Commission (CWC). According to Lalhmingthanga, if the management of the nine power projects — four developing and five proposed — is handed over to the State government, additional employment opportunities could be generated for the locals According to State government officials, in Centrally-run projects even the daily wagers are brought from neighbouring Assam, West Bengal and Bihar because of their experience. The locals, who are lesser skilled, are unable to work in their own State.

Meanwhile, the CWC is expected to submit a detailed viability report on the Kolodyne Phase–I project to the Centre by December 2000.
