Arunachal Pradesh, the land of rising
sun, is on the north eastern tip of India bordering Bhutan on the west, China on the
north, Myanmar on the east and the state of Assam on the south.
Bomdila, a picturesque town with fascinating Buddhist temples, apple orchids and terraced farms is a major tourist attraction. The Tawang monastery on the Indo-china border is the largest in India. With carved and painted halls, corridors lined with cylindrical prayer wheels and pagoda roofs, it casts a magic spell on the visitors. Namdhapa National Park, home to four big cats : the Tiger, Leopard, Clouded Leopard and snow Leopard is overwhelming. The recorded history of this state is available only from the 16th century onwards, when the Ahom kings began to rule Assam. Since 1947, it was a part of the North East Frontier Agency and was later made a Union Territory. Arunachal Pradesh was made a full fledge state of India on 20th February, 1987.
