Arunachal Pradesh

 

Arunachal Pradesh, the land of rising sun, is on the north eastern tip of India bordering Bhutan on the west, China on the north, Myanmar on the east and the state of Assam on the south.
        
Hanging Bridge      A picturesque and hilly terrain, this state is criss-crossed by innumerable mighty rivers and rivulets. It has mountainous ranges endowed with abundant forest cover, Mineral and Hydel power resources.

Agriculture is the main occupation of the people of Arunachal Pradesh, important crops being rice, wheat, maize, millets, pulses, potato and oilseeds. It has a rich reserve of coal and crude oil besided deposits of graphite, dolomite, limestone, kyanite, mica, iron and copper.

  The uniqueness of Arunchal Pradesh is its harmonious co-existence of the three religions; Hinduism, Animism and Buddhism in the three distinctive parallel geographic layers. The state is abode of colourful tribes with glorious heritage of arts and crafts and enchanting folksongs.

Bomdila, a picturesque town with fascinating Buddhist temples, apple orchids and terraced farms is a major tourist attraction. The Tawang monastery on the Indo-china border is the largest in India. With carved and painted halls, corridors lined with cylindrical prayer wheels and pagoda roofs, it casts a magic spell on the visitors. Namdhapa National Park, home to four big cats : the Tiger, Leopard, Clouded Leopard and snow Leopard is overwhelming.

The recorded history of this state is available only from the 16th century onwards, when the Ahom kings began to rule Assam. Since 1947, it was a part of the North East Frontier Agency and was later made a Union Territory. Arunachal Pradesh was made a full fledge state of India on 20th February, 1987.
